This book is one of several that have been published in the past year or so which have examined young people’s drinking behaviours. Along with these other international volumes (e.g. Graham and Homel, 2008; Martinic and Measham, 2008), this book is timely in that it represents an overdue shift in emphasis away from studies of illegal drugs (in which drinking behaviour is relegated to the background of youth culture) towards a more dedicated analysis of the psychoactive substance which is by far both the most culturally important and the most harmful to young people – alcohol.
