This chapter focuses on a criminological ethnograpohy of ’emo’ as a subcultural and stylistic orientation on misery and self-destructive behaviour, globally mocked, maligned and criminalised. However, emo as a style, in other words, ’emostyle’, is experienced by Dutch participants as something to be not related to criminality. Here, theoretical perspectives and the used methods shall be explained. After that, ethnographically collected data and results will be explored, and how this style is experienced by several people that were interviewed.
