Prof Michele Burman is a co-investigator with Dr Lorna Paul (PI) and Clare McFeele (RA) on this two year action research project is funded by the Burdett Trust in Nursing and commenced in March 2012. The aim of the study is to assist community health visitors to identify, and actively engage with women exposed to domestic abuse, in order to more effectively assess and address their health and support needs. The research will utilise police and health service data, and interviews with service users to increase knowledge of the extent and nature of domestic abuse by health visitor service users, and to investigate the health needs of women affected by domestic abuse. Informed by this information and, in collaboration with health visitors and service users, a best practice response model will be developed and the feasibility of integrating this with current services explored.
