This project is a collaboration with Dr Gwen Robinson at the University of Sheffield. At the moment we are awaiting a decision from the ESRC about funding the research.  The focus of the project is on exploring the dynamics of compliance with community supervision. This is an area of considerable policy and practice significance, particularly in penal systems concerned about the excessive use of imprisonment, but it is also an area ripe for theoretical development. The project aims to draw not just on exisiting scholarship about the enforcement of community penalties, but also on work on authority and legitimacy, on compliance and regulation in other spheres, and on desistance from crime.
