Dr Isla Callander is a lecturer in the School of Law at the University of Aberdeen.

Her expertise and research interests lie in criminal law, justice, evidence and procedure, with a particular focus upon sexual offences and youth justice. She also teaches in the areas of criminal law, evidence and family law. Isla was previously awarded her PhD with no corrections from the University of Glasgow, for her thesis titled ‘Improving the Statutory Regulation of Consensual Adolescent Sexual Behaviour in Scotland’. She was awarded the Criminal Law and Criminalisation PhD Scholarship by the University of Glasgow to undertake this research, and worked under the supervision of Professor James Chalmers, Regius Professor of Law and Professor Fiona Leverick, Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice. Isla has also spent time as a visiting researcher in the TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, with the support of the Clark Foundation for Legal Education. Isla also holds an LLM by Research from the University of Glasgow (awarded with no corrections), for her thesis which examined the role of juries in rape trials.
