Mike Watts is a lecturer in Economics at the University of Stirling.

His empirical research investigates evidence of racial bias in police stop and search data and the wider consideration of police legitimacy, the social cost of stops, and policing by consent. He is also interested in evidence of discrimination at other stages in the criminal justice system. In addition to an MSc and PhD in Economics, Mike holds a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Edinburgh and researches the interaction of crime and place, and the extent to which the physical environment influences criminal activity.

Mike was previously a Senior Teaching Fellow in Economics at the University of Edinburgh where he taught a course on the Economics of Crime and undertook research on inequality, social mobility, and discrimination.
