I am a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh with training in psychology and forensic psychiatry. My research interests include psychological approaches to violence reduction, cognitive neuroscientific understanding of offending behaviour, and the intersection of law and neuroscience.

I hold degrees from the University of Edinburgh (PhD, MSc) and Vanderbilt University (BA). My interest in criminal justice research started during my work as a Research Assistant with the MacArthur Foundation on Law and Neuroscience at Vanderbilt University. My PhD research, which was funded by the Forensic Network and the State Hospital, evaluated the implementation of best practice guidance within psychological therapy service delivery in Scottish forensic mental health services. While undertaking my PhD I was also Manager of the Forensic Mental Health Services Managed Care Network, work which involved engaging with key stakeholders including Scottish Prison Service, Police Scotland, and Scottish Government to lead strategic direction and service developments in forensic mental healthcare in Scotland.

I am currently a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh in the Department of Clinical Psychology, researching fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). My research plans in this role include applying my knowledge of forensic mental health and forensic neuroscience to study the prevalence of prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD in custody settings in Scotland.
