SPS magazine Distant VoicesWork by SCCJR academics is highlighted in the first edition of the Scottish Prison Service’s new e-magazine, Together.

The magazine celebrates the diverse range of activities that involve the SPS joining forces with charities, academics and service providers to work with people in prison and also those making the transition back into the community.

Distant Voices is a collaboration between the SPS, SCCJR and arts charity Vox Liminis. Professor Fergus McNeill of the University of Glasgow has worked with Vox Liminis to develop creative practice in criminal justice, working not only with prisoners but also prisoners’ families, academics and prison staff. You can read more about the project on p.4-5 of Together.

SPS magazine Paws for ProgressPaws for Progress, the UK’s first prison-based rescue dog training programme, is the brainchild of SCCJR PhD student Rebecca Leonardi, of the University of Stirling. Based at YOI Polmont, the project pairs young offenders with dogs from a range of local rescue services. In partnership with Fife College, students can study for qualifications while training their canine charges. See p.7 of Together to read about the programme’s many benefits.
