The SCCJR has co-organised an event about disability and criminal justice as part of the University of Glasgow Sociology department’s forthcoming seminar series.
Leanne Dowse, Associate Professor and Chair in Intellectual Disability Behaviour Support at UNSW Australia, will present on ‘Lost in Transition: young people with cognitive disability in contact with the criminal justice system’.
She will use a series of case studies to demonstrate the ways that management of need is often defrayed to the criminal justice system as the key system of response, and will also discuss effective prevention and support approaches.
The seminar, which is free and open to all, will be chaired by Professor Nick Watson, chair of Disability Studies at the University of Glasgow. It will take place on Wednesday, September 30 from 4pm to 5.30pm in the Boyd Orr Building (Room 407 Lecture Theatre), University Gardens, Glasgow.
