Project title: SCCJR development of educational resources for Secondary Modern Studies
Brief outline of responsibilities including number of hours required:
The Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR) is a collaborative cross-institutional research centre, involving four Scottish universities. One of the many strands of its activities is responding to requests for information and resources from Secondary Modern Studies Teachers and Pupils. The Modern Studies curriculum in Scottish schools has a strong and growing emphasis on issues relating to the SCCJR’s work, and the Centre is now keen to develop more comprehensive, pupil-friendly information to be made available via the Centre’s web site.
There are two SCCJR internships available to support this work; one of which will focus on identifying the relevant sources of information; and another which will provide curricular and pedagogical expertise in the creation of resources for schools. A high degree of collaborative working between the two interns will be required in order to ensure that the resources are accessible yet robust. Both internships offer the opportunity to work alongside SCCJR academics and colleagues from the School of Education. There may be further opportunities through the internships to contribute to School related research and knowledge exchange activities, web-site development, and organisation of various activities and events.
The Internships will be for a maximum of 120 hours work at £16.61 per hour, which includes statutory holiday pay at 12.0319%.
Applicants MUST be fully eligible to work in the UK.
1. SCCJR postgraduate intern (Secondary Modern Studies Curriculum Development) duties will include:
· Cooperating on the development of research-based, school friendly materials for SCCJR web-site and development of educational resource sections of SCCJR website.
· Assist with planning of briefings for school teachers on the resources.
· Create PDF style booklet of information for schools on specific research expertise, linked to the relevant areas of the Modern Studies curriculum.
Eligibility: Only open to Postgraduate Students registered in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow for duration of Internship.
Essential and Desirable Criteria of Applicants:
Essential
· Postgraduate Student in Education registered in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow for duration of Internship;
· Knowledge of the Secondary Modern Studies Curriculum in Scotland
· An interest in crime and justice issues;
· Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
· Proven high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with a wide range of individuals, and to interact professionally with senior level staff internal and external to University;
· Excellent written and oral communication skills;
· High level IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Desirable
· Good internet research skills;
· Excellent time, organisational and workload management skills;
· Experience of web development and non-standard software packages;
· Excellent typing accuracy and data-entry skills;
· Experience in desk-based publishing
2. SCCJR postgraduate intern (Crime, Law and Justice ) duties will include:
