Two members of SCCJR are among the plenary speakers confirmed for next year’s British Society of Criminology conference.

The conference, titled Forging Social Justice – Local Challenges, Global Complexities, will take place in Sheffield from July 4 to 7.

Professor Fergus McNeill of the University of Glasgow and Dr Beth Weaver of the University of Strathclyde have top billing alongside Professor John Braithwaite and Professor Valerie Braithwaite, both of the Australian National University.

The SCCJR colleagues, both former criminal justice social workers, with present on desistance, integration and social justice. Prof McNeill’s main interests lie in the fields of sentencing, community sanctions, ex-offender reintegration and youth justice, while Dr Weaver’s focus is desistance and the implications for criminal and community justice policy and practice, not least around coproduction and user involvement.

Prof John Braithwaite is best known for his research on the ideas of responsive regulation and restorative justice, while Prof Valerie Braithwaite’s current work looks at psychological processes in regulation and governance

Early bird registration for the conference will open on Monday January 30.
