Royal Society of EdinburghEffective communication between academic researchers and policymakers is crucial to the development of good public policy. However, recent studies have demonstrated that all stakeholders could do more to realise the benefits of closer dialogue.

The Scottish Policy Innovation Forum, British Academy, Royal Society of Edinburgh and Scottish Funding Council are delighted to invite you to attend Promoting Dialogue, a one-day event on Friday 12 June 2009. This event will bring together senior figures from academia, central government, local government, funding organisations and learned societies to discuss current practices and explore how more effective dialogue might be achieved.

The morning session will include a presentation outlining the key findings of the British Academy report, Punching our weight, some short presentations by a representative of each of the major stakeholders and an open discussion.

The afternoon session will include some short workshops in which attendees and participants will consider the issues discussed in the morning and the barriers to and opportunities for further implementation. It will conclude with a response to the issues identified by workshop groups and some recommendations for more effective dialogue To confirm your attendance, please email Darragh Hare at scottishpolicyforum@yahoo.co.uk. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to nominate a colleague to attend in your place.
