Mark is Head of Social Work and Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
He spent almost 20 years as a practitioner and manager in List D schools/secure accommodation, and his PhD was essentially an oral history charting changing discourses of care in Scottish residential schools.
He has research and writing interests across a wide range of residential child care policy and practice, especially around concepts of care and upbringing. He has a particular interest in European models of social pedagogy and in applying these in a Scottish context.
