PhD Working Title: Public Protection, Treatment, and Punishment: Scotland’s Dual Pathway Indeterminate Sentencing Framework
Elaine obtained an LLB (Hons) in Scots Law from the University of Glasgow in 2013 before progressing to postgraduate research in the same year. Her PhD research is focused on the preventive sentencing of “dangerous” offenders, especially those with mental health problems. Elaine also has broader interests in the use of risk assessment in sentencing and parole decision-making, and the treatment of mentally disordered offenders within the justice system generally.
