Dr Andy Aydın-Aitchison

Andy is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Edinburgh School of Law. His primary research interests include atrocity crimes and the interface of criminology with international criminal law; criminal justice reforms in post-authoritarian, post-conflict and post-socialist contexts; the former Yugoslavia; and the relationship between police and democracy, and the institutional frameworks through which this is realised.
Previous roles include a spell as a Research Officer for the Home Office, primarily engaged on analysis of crime data on the English regions and Wales; as a Research Associate at Cardiff University, working as the primary field researcher on an evaluation of a multi-agency robbery reduction initiative in central Bristol; and as a lecturer in Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh between 2006 and 2012.
