About

Michele is Professor of Criminology at the University of Glasgow, where she is also Convenor of the International Centre for Gender and Women's Studies (ICGWS). She has held research positions at Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities, as well as within the Scottish Executive where she was a senior research officer in criminology.

She has a long-standing research interest in violence against women, in particular the criminal justice response to rape, sexual assault and domestic violence. She also has allied research interests in the areas of gender, crime and criminal justice, female sexuality and the law, female offenders, and troubled and troublesome girls. 

She is currently conducting research into rape attrition in Scotland as part of an EU Daphne- funded project on the attrition of rape cases in several European countries led by Professor Liz Kelly of London Metropolitan University.  She is also working on a study of the Gender Equality Duty with Jenny Johnstone of SCCJR and Jan McLeod and Janette de Haan of the Women’s Support Project.

Michele is also part of the SCCJR team undertaking research into Young People and Knife Carrying in Scotland.
