About

I have a background in Law (University of Newcastle Upon Tyne) and Criminal Justice Studies (MA from the University of Leeds) and Legal Practice (Diploma from Leeds Metropolitan University). I have worked in practice, as a para-legal, in the area of family law and as a volunteer case-worker at a Law Centre in the areas of family, housing, and welfare law. I came to Glasgow, as a Lecturer in October 2005, having previously worked in the School of Law at the University of Sheffield from October 1998 as the Irwin Mitchell Research Fellow. My research interests span criminal justice, youth justice, human rights, restorative justice, legal profession, civil justice and provision of legal services (including public funding). I worked previously as a Research Associate at Leeds University on a variety of projects looking at the use of information technology by the legal profession, legal education and training and legal aid. Having worked at the Sheffield School of Law on the Independent Evaluation of Statutory Time Limit Pilots in the Youth Court and on Users' Experiences of the Civil Justice System, I am currently involved in the Evaluation of Restorative Justice Schemes and research on Non-legally Qualified Advisors and their Clients.
