The SCCJR Annual Lecture: Tracey Meares
The SCCJR Annual Lecture will take place in Lecture Theatre 1 of Appleton Tower, University of Edinburgh.
The speaker will be Professor Tracey Meares, who is the Walton Hale Hamilton Professor of Law at Yale University. She co-directs the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School, which plays a central role in a new federal initiative to build trust and confidence in the US criminal justice system.
Prof Meares’s lecture is titled Thinking Through the “Public” in Public Legitimacy. She says: ‘Much of the literature exploring the relationship between social psychological theories of procedural justice and public legitimacy makes central legal authorities and individual perceptions of those authorities. In this lecture I would like to decenter legal authorities in the conversation about public legitimacy, and also to think about what it would mean to make “community” a more important unit of analysis of study in the public legitimacy space.’
