Structures & Processes in the CJS
This wide-ranging network is concerned with understanding the various processes and practices involved in the Scottish juvenile and criminal justice systems; it will explore both formal and traditional practices (for example, policing, prosecution, sentencing and sanctioning) and informal alternatives (for example, diversion and restorative justice). The network will also address the modes of governance and regulation of these processes and practices in Scotland. In considering the effectiveness of governance in this field, a key aim will be to examine the impact of justice processes and practices on both individuals and communities, and their effectiveness in reducing offending and re-offending. The network is also concerned with both media representations of justice systems and public attitudes towards them.
